Why I Invest in Continuous Learning as a Pet Photographer

As this year begins to wind down, I want to take a moment to offer a heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped me along my learning journey. Whether you volunteered your pup for a session, cheered me on, or simply believed in the creative process—your support meant the world to me. Truly, without your willingness to participate, none of this would have been possible.

Earlier in 2025, I committed to a series of intensive photography challenges designed specifically to elevate my skills as a pet photographer. Each challenge had a unique theme—dogs running, leaping, playing, balancing, standing on props, and more. Every image needed to be completed within a strict time limit and had to follow very specific guidelines. After submission, each photo was reviewed and critiqued by highly respected pet photographers from around the globe.

It was rigorous, inspiring, humbling… and absolutely incredible.

One of the greatest parts of this experience was being surrounded (virtually) by other pet photographers who were walking the same path. We learned from each other, shared ideas, encouraged one another, and pushed ourselves to grow. That sense of community—of artists striving together—is something I’ll always carry with me.

For me, continuous learning isn’t optional—it’s at the heart of the artwork I create. I believe your pets deserve portraits that are not just beautiful, but meaningful, expressive, and crafted with intention. That’s why I invest deeply in my education. Over the years I’ve taken countless courses, completed advanced workshops, and even traveled to places like Maine and Scotland for on-site seminars and hands-on training. Each new experience allows me to fine-tune my craft, expand my vision, and ultimately deliver portrait artwork that my clients will treasure for a lifetime.

This challenge series was another step on that journey, and I’m incredibly proud to share a gallery of all my entries—along with a few Top 10 and Top 20 placements that were a wonderful surprise.
