Photography Sessions Part One

When I was younger, the concept of a "Pet Photographer" was foreign to me. However, over time, this industry has gained popularity due to the fact that many individuals consider their pets as a part of their family. As a consumer, it can be quite daunting to choose a photographer and decide what type of session would be most suitable for your pet.

Recently, a potential client requested a session from me, which prompted me to write this blog. My hope is to provide some clarity and understanding in the vast and varied world of pet photographers.

The Search:

If you're on the lookout for someone to capture amazing photos of your furry friend, searching for "Pet Photographers near me" is a great place to start! You'll find loads of options to choose from. Take some time to view their websites and check out their work. This will help you get a feel for their style and approach to pet photography, and will make it easier to find someone who's a great fit for you and your furry family member!

The Consult:

It's my professional opinion that it's important for photographers to arrange a consultation session with you beforehand. This will help ensure that both of you are compatible and on the same page. By the end of the discussion, both of you will have a clear understanding of what is required and what will be provided.

The Contract:

Once you are ready to move forward and book a session a contract with a required payment is created to secure your date and time.

The period between booking the date for the session and the actual session might seem uneventful to you, apart from the excitement and anticipation. However, for me, it is a time when I take care of a lot of small details. These include keeping an eye on the weather, planning the session based on what we discussed during our consultation, and keeping you informed about everything throughout this period.

The Session:

During our session, we'll have plenty of time to get creative and try out different locations and poses. And don't worry - I've got all the equipment we need, plus a few fun extras to make the experience even better. If at any point you or your pup needs a break, just let me know. Your comfort and safety are my top priorities. The time we spend during your session is all about having fun with your pet and capturing memories you can cherish.

The Reveal:

We've been building up to this day ever since our first conversation. It's a day that always fills me with excitement. Usually, we schedule your reveal session right after the shoot, which takes place around two weeks later. During the reveal, you will come to my studio, relax, and browse through the gallery of all the beautiful images I've created for you. I like to remind my clients that, at this point, the responsibility is on them to choose which photos they'd like to display in their homes and which products would be best to showcase them. I have a streamlined process that makes this process feel easy and organized, according to what my past clients have told me.

The Pickup:

Depending on the type of product you order, this time can vary. Once your order is in, I check it to ensure everything is perfect. If there are any issues with the prints, I handle them with the vendor, so you never have to. You then return to the studio and see all the finished, beautiful work you are taking home. I love the smiles and occasional tears; it makes me feel like I’ve given something special to someone, and that feels good.

In a future blog, I will dive deeper into all these aspects and share some more specifics to help you get a better understanding of how I create my photography journey with you and your pet.

While I offer other session types (link to see more), my primary session type centers around creating beautiful artwork for you. If you need something different, please ask. I am always willing to have a conversation to see if we can make it happen.
