Let’s Talk about Photo Shoot Events
I love the opportunity to go places, set up a mini studio shoot, and meet all sorts of wonderful people and their pets. Especially when events are held for charity. But honestly, this doesn't represent the type of work I do for my standard sessions.
For a Standard Studio session, it's just me, you, and your pet. There are environmental distractions, but no other dogs or pets. We have ample time for your pet to explore and acclimate to the environment. We also have a lot more space to move around. I added a couple of examples of Miss Ellie's shoot, she was a wiggle butt, and we did get a fair share of missed and goofy shots.
During an event, it can sometimes be a little chaotic; there are many distractions, anything from other pets, other vendors, and all my gear, not to mention the potential of yummy food smells. Even the best-trained dogs may need help settling down during these events.
So what do you do if you want to attend an event and try to get the best photos? Here are a few tips that can help.
1) Set your expectations, read above again, and know your dog. Do what's best for them. This may not be the environment for them, and that is ok. You can always book a private session with me.
2) Exercise your dog before the event; a tired dog is a good dog
3) Arrive early (like 20-30 mins) and give your dog time to acclimate
4) If your dog has a favorite toy or treat, bring it; it may help to get the behavior you need
5) Keep your anxiety down. Dogs will feed off of the energy we give. They will sense that if you are getting frustrated, and it won’t help the situation.
Most of these points are valid for any activity you do with your dog. It is also helpful even when you have a 1:1 shoot with me.
